This little gem has a very British feel. Sally has a list of 10 things she needs to buy. She explores the shops on High Street while she searches for her items. Each shop has a lift-the-flap page that gives the reader a view of the shop's contents, and the list is repeated as Sally locates each object. Does she find everything? You'll have to find out for yourself.

BookSpeak- Laura Purdie Salas
This is a great little book of poetry that explores the world of books and reading. There are poems about book covers, the characters that populate the books we read, what might happen in a bookstore after hours, and more. The illustraions are a melange of hand-drawn work, digital images, and clipped art. Very charming, and just as much fun for adults as for kids.

Tom's Tweet by Jill Esbaum w/illustrations by Dan Santat
This was just as cute as it could be! Tom the cat thinks he's scored an easy snack when he finds a helpless little bird, but his conscience kicks in and he decides to do the right thing and tries to put the baby back in its nest. An angry Mama bird misunderstands and goes on the attack. Tom is forced to take care of the little one while he tries to figure out a way to get him back in his nest. Poor Tom finally gets his little tweet back home, only to find him on the loose again the next day. The illustrations were charmingly adorable, and the story is a hoot.

The World Champion of Staying Awake by Sean Taylor, Jimmy Liao (Illustrator)
From Goodreads:
When Stella’s toy animals refuse to go to sleep, she comes up with a clever plan using her keen imagination.
It’s time for Stella to go to bed. But how can she sleep when Cherry Pig, Thunderbolt the puppet mouse, and Beanbag Frog are wide awake? "I’m the world champion of staying awake!" shouts Cherry Pig, bouncing on the bed. Luckily Stella is good at thinking up ways to get her toys to sleep - by taking them on a sailing Pillow Ship, a shoebox Midnight Train, and a toy-basket Starship Balloon. With luminous illustrations and an utterly charming text ("I’ve shut my eyes, but my feet are completely woken-up . . . "), this ode to a child’s imagination and boundless spirit is certain to be a winning choice at bedtime.
My take:
This is a DELIGHTFUL little book about a little girl's imagination and how hard it is to go to bed when you really want to stay awake! As Stella slowly lures her playmates to sleep, she is able to become sleepy herself while still holding her title as The World Champion of Staying Awake! The illustrations are as charming as the story, and I hope to see the author & illustrator collaborate on some more books.

Maggie's Second Chance- Nancy Furstinger
ok, I admit I'm a sap and a sucker for animals. This beautiful story made me cry. Maggie is a sweet dog, pregnant and abandoned by her owners. She's taken to a shelter to have her puppies. The puppies all get new homes, but Maggie is left to languish until a little boy sees a news story about her and begs his teacher to help him help her. His class petitions the city council and gets a no-kill shelter created- just in time to save Maggie who is about to be euthanized.

The Special Blankie
This was a cute little story. Little Hedgehog agrees to take care of Baby Hedgehog. His friends aren't so thrilled about having Baby and his blankie tag along, but when one of them gets into trouble, it's Baby & the blankie who save the day! Not only is this a good book to teach little ones that EVERYONE is important, it has a fuzzy blankie that they can pat on the pages.

What the Mouse Found
This is a darling collection of stories that Charles wrote for assorted children in his life, based loosley on dolls & stuffed animals made by his wife. They're all delightful, but the last story nearly made me cry. The end was bittersweet, but over all it's a terrific collection that would be a wonderful way to get your little bookworm hooked on the Magic that is Charles's deLint's work.

Instructions
This little gem of a volume contains three of my favorite things- fairy tales, Neil Gaiman's writing, and the art of Charles Vess. I was lucky enough to score a deeply discounted copy from Amazon, but it's well worth purchasing at full price! The illustrations are gorgeous, making you feel like you're there with every step....er, turn of the page. The simple instructions for a successful journey through the Otherworld make you feel like you're on the adventure.

We Are In A Book
This may be my favorite of the Elephant & Piggie books so far! When they realize that they are in a book and readers are following what they do, Elephant and Piggie begin to have some fun with their followers. Their outright glee is contagious, and reading this makes me wish I could be in a book too!
Three Scoops and a Fig
Sweet little book about an Italian girl who wants to help her family get ready for a big dinner. But her attempts to help end in disaster and the various family members telling her that she's too little to help. She finally goes outside to huddle under a fig tree with a bowl of gelato and her beloved kitty, where she gets the inspiration for a dish that everyone in her family ultimately agrees is just right!
